1. Hindi got its name from the Persian word Hind meaning the land of the Indus river. Sanskrit is the mother of Hindi and Urdu is considered its sister language.


2. Hindi language got the status of the official language of India in 1950. In 1954, a committee was formed by the Government of India to prepare Hindi grammar. 


3. Hindi is spoken by 366 million people worldwide. After English, Spanish, and Mandarin It is the 4th most spoken language, also spoken in Fiji, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Nepal & Mauritius.


4. Hindi is written in the Devanagri script and has 52 letters. Hindi script is phonetic meaning it's pronounced the way it is written, unlike English.
